I have a camera gear collection problem and as part of my personal 12 step plan, I restrict myself from purchasing functioning lenses. In 1970, the UCC reported its highest ratio of members to churches: 291 to one. That’s actually a really healthy number. But now the figure has dropped to only 152 members per congregation. In other words, they aren’t closing churches fast enough to keep that ratio up. To maintain a ratio of 291, it would require the UCC to have only 2,350 churches. That would mean shutting the doors of over 2,000 congregations.

“DPI cannot lower academic standards in secret and simply expect parents and students to accept the outcome,” IRG General Counsel Jake Curtis said in a statement. “Working groups created by DPI are not exempt from Wisconsin’s Open Meetings Laws. The Department of Public Instruction invited 88 education professionals to the session to review and adjust cut scores for the state’s standardized tests. It later adopted lower standards for proficiency in reading and math.

IRG has long maintained that the changes were designed to mask persistently low student performance in Wisconsin public schools.
